Fowey Attractions
Must Visit
The Main Attractions
Some of Cornwall's major visitor attractions are located near Fowey. The best known is The Eden Project, a short 15 minute drive away. Eden is so much more than a giant botanical garden. It is also a hive of activity with a full programme of events and courses throughout the year. It is constantly evolving so never think that visiting once is enough! For information on events, check out their website www.edenproject.com
Another very popular attraction is the National Trust's Lanhydrock House and Gardens. The House is fascinating, with over 50 rooms to tour and the gardens are quite spectacular. Lanydrock also has a regular programme of activity and events during the year that are well worth looking out for, including the Summer Party in the Park evening. Find out more by visiting http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-lanhydrock
A more unusual place to visit is Bodmin Court. Take part in a re-creation of one of Cornwall’s most famous crimes in the very courtroom that the trial took place. Charlotte Dymond’s body was found at Rough Tor on Bodmin Moor and her beloved Matthew Weeks was accused of her murder. http://www.bodminmoor.co.uk/bodmintic/
On the heritage trail you'll find the Shipwreck Museum at Charlestown. Open March – November this interesting museum,
located in an historic china clay building, offers an insight into the history of Charlestown and shipwrecks.
The Shipwreck and historical artefacts on display in the centre are the largest private collection of this type on public display in Europe. Brought together over the last 45 to 50 years, it forms the basis of one of the most unusual and interesting collections open to the public. http://www.shipwreckcharlestown.com/
A great day out is a visit to the China Clay Country Park at Wheal Martyn, near St Austell. Set in 26 acres of woodland nestling in the historic Ruddle Valley, the China Clay Country Park provides a fascinating day out for all the family. Now part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, it is set in the grounds of two former working China Clay Pits and provides visitors with a fascinating insight into China Clay - how it was mined, what is was used for and what it meant for the families who lived in the area. http://www.wheal-martyn.com/
Look Out For
For railway enthusiasts, there are two attractions not to miss. One is the World of Model Railways at Mevagissey and the other is the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway.
The World of Model Railways has a model railway collection like you’ve never seen before – complete with sensory touch!

The Bodmin & Wenford Railway is a Standard Gauge Railway that operates mainly steam locomotives in the Duchy of Cornwall. You can enjoy a 13 mile round trip on this steeply graded line through the beautiful countryside. An all over rover ticket is available giving you a full day's use. The railway holds a number of events and you can get more information by visiting http://www.bodminandwenfordrailway.co.uk/
The Eden Project
The Eden Project is a phenomenal attraction and the story of its construction fascinating. A definite must see when in Cornwall, not just once, but over and over as every visit reveals something new!
Foundations of Clay
Cornwall still mines some clay, the deposits of which are shipped around the world from Par Dock. The industry has a rich history revealed in a super family day out at the Wheal Martyn China Clay Musuem. It's fascinating to learn how many products and processes clay is used for.
Bodmin Court
Bodmin Town Hall and the old Court building are well worth a visit to witness a murder trial so to speak!
